ANZA - A brush fire broke out today on the eastern edge of the Cahuilla Indian Reservation in Anza, charring roughly 25 acres before Cal Fire aircraft slowed it down.
The non-injury blaze, named the Creek Fire, was reported about 1:30 p.m. in the area of Cary and Yucca roads, just north of Highway 371, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
Multiple engine crews were sent to the location, but because they were having to navigate dirt roads that did not lead directly to the brusher, they were delayed.
Two Cal Fire air tankers and a water-dropping helicopter reached the scene within 20 minutes and initiated a series of runs on the blaze that slowed its progress and closed off one flank.
Several homes were in the vicinity of the fire, but not immediately threatened,
