As of about midnight Tuesday night, 87.3% of the ballots have been counted statewide, with ballots still coming in, but several races had emerging leaders and likely November matchups:

Riverside County

Governor

In Riverside County, Republican Chad Bianco was running strongly in early returns, though statewide he is trailing Steve Hilton and Xavier Becerra. Bianco told supporters he believed Election Day voting would improve his position as additional ballots are counted.

Lieutenant Governor (Riverside County early returns)

Among Riverside County voters, the leaders were:

Congressional Races

Several Riverside County congressional races were too early to call Tuesday night, with large numbers of mail ballots still outstanding.


San Diego County

County Board of Supervisors District 5

Early returns showed:

  • Rebecca Jones among the leaders
  • Kyle Krahel among the leaders

This race is particularly important because it could affect the political balance of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors.

San Diego City Council District 2

Early returns showed:

  • Richard Bailey leading
  • Nicole Crosby in second place

District 2 has been one of the most expensive local races in the county.


Statewide Governor’s Race

With approximately 42% of precincts partially reporting, the statewide leaders remained:

  • Steve Hilton — about 26%
  • Xavier Becerra — about 26%
  • Tom Steyer — about 20%
  • Chad Bianco — single digits statewide

At this point, Hilton and Becerra appear to be on track for the November general election, though millions of ballots remain uncounted.
