Supervisors approve East Hemet rezone, general plan amendment, plot plan

The Riverside County Board of Supervisors approved a rezone, general plan amendment, and plot plan for a proposed East Hemet development. The supervisors voted 5-0 March 24 to approve a zoning classification change, general plan amendment, and plot plan. The vote also adopted an environmental Mitigated Negative Declaration for the 2.4-acre project. The land in the 25900 block of Columbia Street had both R-3 (General Residential) and A-1-5 (Light Agriculture, 5-acre minimum) zoning, and the rezone creates R-3 zoning for the entire property. The general plan designation was changed from MDR (Medium Density Residential, 2-5 dwelling units per acre) to VHDR (Very High Density Residential, 14-20 dwelling units per acre).
